The Story Behind the Hero
Abraham, originally called Abram, lived in Ur of the Chaldeans when God called him to leave his homeland and go to a land that God would show him. In faith, Abraham obeyed, not knowing where he was going.
God made a covenant with Abraham, promising to make him the father of many nations and to give his descendants the land of Canaan. Though Abraham and his wife Sarah were old and childless, God promised them a son.
Abraham's faith was tested when God asked him to sacrifice his promised son, Isaac. Abraham obeyed, trusting God completely, but God provided a ram as a substitute sacrifice. This event foreshadowed God's provision of Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice.
Abraham is honored in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as a model of faith and obedience to God.
