Mount Moriah

The Place of Sacrifice

The mountain where Abraham was tested by offering Isaac, and where the Temple would later be built.

The Story

Mount Moriah is one of the most sacred places in biblical history. It was on this mountain that God tested Abraham's faith, asking him to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham obeyed, but at the last moment God provided a ram as a substitute.

This event prefigured the sacrifice of Christ — the beloved Son offered by the Father. Centuries later, King Solomon would build the Temple on this very mountain, making it the centre of worship in Israel.

The name "Moriah" means "the Lord will provide", recalling God's provision of the substitute ram and, prophetically, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
